Welcome

Currently no real plan what to do here. Maybe showing the possibilites of hosting your own IT to get away from sharing all your data over the globe?

Let’s see.

I will try to cover the following topics:

  • Hardware I have chosen
  • Why Debian?
  • Software-RAID Installation
  • Linux-Containers (LXD)

Hardware

Hardware-Setup

The System runs in this Configuration since 4 years I suppose. (Today I would not choose normal HDDs for Storage – but 4 years ago they were a lot cheaper than SSDs)

The Case is kind of a small desktop case so it can fit easily in many places, it needs an TFX-PSU. This whole setup needs in idle about 20Watts and up to 40Watts.

Both SSDs are in a RAID1-Configuration which means all data is mirrored. So one Disk can fail without data loss.

All HDDs are in a RAID5-Configuration which means the data is distributed but secured by parity, so there can also one Disk fail without any data loss.
